The Foundation - History

Founded in 1985, the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation has made a significant contribution to medical research, specifically targeting the health and wellbeing of veterans and their families.

Sir Edward Dunlop was the driving force behind the formation of the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation as well as the inaugural Patron and a prolific fund raiser.

The Foundation is fully supported by the major ex-service organisations, the Department of Veterans' Affairs and community-minded companies and individuals.

Since 1987, the Foundation has contributed funds to medical research throughout Australia. Its research leads to new discoveries and improvement in the treatment and prevention of many illnesses that affect the veteran community. Such research has also had a significant impact on the broader community and many projects to date have had particular impact on the ageing population.

The Foundation has focussed its interest in significant areas such as prostate disease, wound healing, diabetes, post traumatic stress disorder, and other illnesses affected by modern-day living.
